KYBELLA- Permanently define your jawline!
Have you seen all the crazy memes about double chins? There's one I particularly like below:
I feel like no matter how skinny you are, you will always have a double chin- I think it's how we were all anatomically made!
Double chins are caused by various reasons (weight, genetics, and aging). Luckily, Kybella was FDA cleared on April 29, 2015 and released by Allergan (the company that creates botox and Juvederm fillers) on June 19th 2015 to help us with our double chin dilemma! The FDA approved Kybella treatments to permanentlly remove submental fullness under the chin and can give you a more contoured jawline. It is now also being used "off label" for underarm fat. Step by Step Guide to getting Kybella:1. Finding the right DOCTOR
Find a reputable physician in your area who is an authorized physician with allergan and has received the proper training for Kybella. You will need to feel comfortable with your provider and their office staff that will assist you through out the whole process.
2. Consenting to the treatment and understanding the risks
Before getting any treatments done, you should understand what you're getting yourself into. Read the consents they give you thoroughly and make sure your physicians discusses what you should expect after the treatment. Whether it's swelling, redness, bruising, etc. You and your physician should create a treatment plan that will give you the results you're looking for
3. Template and Numbing
There are many different techniques out there when it comes to administering Kybella. Allergan includes a template that is very similar to how you would apply a temporary tattoo on someone. I recommend that this template is placed for accuracy on treating the desired area, some physicians like to inject the product without the template (but they would need to have great experience with Kybella to do that). Some physicians inject lidocaine before injecting the Kybella, others apply numbing cream. Regardless, your physicians should go over the different options they have available to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. I opted for numbing cream and ice on the area that was going to be injected.
4. Injections, Injections, and more Injections
Depending on the how many vials you receive will determine how many injections you receive. Each vial you get will result in 10 needle pokes. So I received 4 vials of Kybella, so total pokes was 40 needle pokes. You need to find someone who can do the treatment fast, but accurate. The numbing medication I received made my skin numb, so I didn't even feel the needle pokes. But as the medication is injected, you will feel a slightly burning sensation. The burning sensation will be the worst part of the treatment.
5. Swollen like a bullfrog!
You will be swollen for a few days after treatment. I want to say that the 2nd and 3rd day will be the worst of it all. But expect to have swelling for 1-2 weeks. Other people may not notice the swelling, but you may. Cover up with a scarf or turtle neck and people won't even notice! Kybella's clinical trials recommends that you get at least two treatments for maximum results. You can do your next treatment at a minimum of 6 weeks, but your full results can be seen up to 12 weeks.
I've only gotten one treatment, but can already see great results. If you are looking for a non invasive way to reduce your double chin, this is a great way to do it! The pain is tolerable and the swelling is not as bad as people may say it is. Let me know if you have any questions regarding the treatment on the comments below.
